This is for anyone who’s ever doubted themselves, even if only for a second.⠀

Please stop making room for fear.⠀

I’m talking to myself too. There have been times when I’ve second-guessed my abilities and things I knew to be true because of fear, and it’s never turned out in my favor.⠀

I know fear can seem so ruthless with its accusations of your nothingness and its attempts to keep you small, but know that fear is nothing more than a fraud. It thrives in the darkness where your vision is skewed — like a shadow cast during a storm, disappearing when the lights come on — once the truth hits, fear’s lies disappear.

Fear will have you thinking you’re alone when that’s just not true.

An unhealthy habit I’m working on when it comes to fear is withdrawing. I put so much pressure on myself to get There that I often isolated myself along the way. Fear had me thinking I was alone on my journey when the exact opposite is true. I have a community of people who love me and ready to support me how they can. And biblically speaking, God said he’ll never leave me or forsake me.

I’m realizing the key to breaking this habit is filling up on the truth: I’m not alone. I have support. I don’t have to push through alone. Even when disappointment happens, consistency will get me where I want to go. I just have to refuse to give into fear. Easier said than done, I know. It helps to recognize triggers and have a plan of attack in place.

I usually call one of my closest people, turn on a worship playlist, or recite some affirmations. There have been multiple days when I’ve done all three and then some. Don’t feel ashamed if you have to do the same.

The goal is do what you have to do to shake the fear and all its lies. You’ve got this!

5 Affirmations to Overcome Fear

  1. I choose to live from a place of power, love and confidence instead of fear.
  2. I will walk in freedom because the Holy Spirit directs my path.
  3. I’m grateful for a community that encourages me and reminds me of the giants I’ve slayed before.
  4. I commit to living a life of faith in my Creator and who I was created to be.
  5. I will not shrink in the presence of fear.

“I, I am the one who comforts you. Why should you fear humans who will die, mortals who are treated like grass?⠀

I put my words in your mouth and hid you in the shadow of my hand, stretching out the heavens, founding the earth, and saying to Zion, ‘You are my people.’ ” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭51:12, 16‬ ‭ (CEB‬‬)
